IBHRE Exam Review for Allied Health ProfessionalsDates Coming in 2009.(12 Contact Hours)Cost: $315 | OBJECTIVES | CONTENT (Topics) | TIME FRAME | | 1.To describe any and all concepts related to Basic and Applied Science and Technology in cardiac devices. | Basic Science and technology will be discussed to include: Basic energy calculations, charge, coated-wire technology, conductor construction, ICD battery depletion, action potentials, appropriate pacemaker programming, unipolar and bipolar electrical signals, anodal stimulation, strength duration curves. | 120 minutes dedicated from: 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Day 1 | | 2.To discuss the medical application of Pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices. | This will include the understanding of the current Indications for device implant, as well as appropriate device selection, based on patient needs. Pharmacology and the effects of common medications on the cardiac action potential will also be discussed. | 120 minutes dedicated from: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Day 1 | | 3.To discuss any and all concepts around Clinical pacing. | Clinical pacing will be discussed to include: Atrial and ventricular capture, rate smoothing, crosstalk inhibition, ECG interpretation, atrial overdrive, lead insulation breaches, EMI inhibition, PMT, follow-up complications, battery depletion, rate responsive pacing, mode-switching, atrial and ventricular sensing issues. | 180 minutes dedicated from: 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Day 1 | | 4. To discuss any and all concepts around Clinical ICD. | Clinical ICD will be discussed to include: DFT testing at implant, the management of ICD complications, the follow-up of single and dual chamber ICDs, the steps to troubleshooting an ICD episode, indications for ICD implant. | 120 minutes dedicated from: 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Day 2 | | 5.To discuss any and all concepts related to Radiography in implanted device cases. | Radiography and it’s use will be discussed to include: AP and lateral views, over-penetrated films, pulse generator location, pulse generator model and polarity, visualization of the connector block, lead polarity and fixation mechanism, lead integrity, and proper lead positioning (Endocardial, Epicardial, Coronary Sinus, Extra Cardiac, etc.) | 120 minutes dedicated from: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Day 2 | | 6.To discuss Heart Failure and CRT device programming | Heart Failure and CRT will be discussed to include: Tied output devices (recognition of various losses of capture), coronary venous anatomy, AV optimization, V-V optimization, Heart Failure classes and stages, commonly used medications to treat HF, anodal capture, commonly used HF diagnostics from implanted devices. | 120 minutes dedicated from: 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Day 2 |
